About this policy

This privacy policy explains how the Soorah app and the website at soorah.app handle information. It is written for parents, guardians, and anyone who uses Soorah with a child.

Soorah is a Juz Amma memorisation companion. It does not create accounts, it does not have its own servers for your practice data, and it does not show advertising. The short version: your family’s profiles, marks, and practice stay on the device unless you choose to send us a message.

This policy is meant to meet Apple App Store and Google Play requirements, including Apple guideline 5.1 (Privacy), Google Play’s User Data and Data safety rules, and children’s privacy laws such as COPPA in the United States and the GDPR in the European Union. If this policy and a store listing ever differ, this page is the detailed description of our practices.

Who Soorah is for

Soorah is made for children learning Juz Amma and for the families who practise with them, on a shared device. A grown-up check sits in front of purchases, restore, and support options so those choices are not offered to a child by accident.

We do not ask for a date of birth, an age, an email address, or a parent account in order to use the app. Creating a profile only needs a name or nickname that you choose.

What we do not collect

Soorah does not create user accounts and does not run a Soorah backend that receives your family’s information.

We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, photos, precise location, contacts, payment card details, government identifiers, voice recordings of a child, or health data.

We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, AAID / GAID on Android). We do not use cookies, SDKs, or pixels for advertising, attribution, or cross-app tracking. We do not sell information. We do not build advertising or analytics profiles.

The app does not include third-party analytics and does not include third-party advertising. That is intentional: Soorah is designed for children and families.

Information stored on your device

The app stores the information it needs to work on the device itself. This information is not sent to Soorah.

For each profile, that can include: the name or nickname you type (1–20 characters), a colour, memorised and needs-review marks, last-read position, recent activity, practice session history (including hints and checks you used), and recent searches.

Shared by every profile on the device: reciter choice, downloaded recitation audio files, Arabic text size, translation language and whether translation is shown, appearance (light, dark, or system), and whether full practice has been unlocked.

A profile name is only what you type into the app. It never has to be a legal name. Nothing in the app requires a child to provide contact information.

How that information is used

On-device information is used only to operate the app for you: to show the right profile, remember marks, continue from the last ayah, play or download audio, apply reading preferences, and honour a verified full-practice unlock.

Practice history is a local record of hints and checks. It is not a score, it is not shared, and it never changes memorised marks by itself.

We do not use on-device information for advertising, marketing, profiling, or sale. We cannot read it remotely because it is not sent to us.

Recitation audio

Quran text and translations are bundled in the app, so reading does not require an account or a Soorah server.

Recitation audio is provided by Quran Foundation. If a surah is not downloaded for the reciter you chose, the app streams the ayah from Quran Foundation’s content servers. You can download audio in Settings for offline listening. Downloaded files are stored in the app’s private storage on the device and are shared by every profile.

A stream or download is an ordinary internet request for an audio file. The content servers may receive standard technical information such as IP address, a device or app user-agent, the time of the request, and which file was requested. We do not send them profile names, marks, practice history, search history, or purchase details. We do not use those requests to track you across apps or websites.

Quran Foundation handles that technical request data under its own practices. We do not sell it and we do not combine it with a Soorah account — there is no Soorah account.

Purchases and the app stores

Full practice is a one-time unlock sold through Apple In-App Purchase on iOS and Google Play Billing on Android. There is no Soorah subscription and no recurring charge from Soorah.

Apple or Google processes the payment. They may collect store account, device, and payment information under the Apple Privacy Policy or Google Privacy Policy. Soorah never receives your card number, store password, or government ID. After a verified purchase or restore, the app only stores on the device that full practice is unlocked, which product was unlocked, and when.

Restore uses the store account on the device. Pending, cancelled, failed, or offline transactions do not unlock the library.

Sharing, sale, and third parties

We do not sell personal information. We do not share profile names, marks, practice history, or search history with third parties, because that information does not leave the device.

The only third parties involved in using Soorah are: Apple or Google when you buy or restore full practice; Quran Foundation when you stream or download recitation audio; and, if you email us, the email provider that delivers your message.

We do not integrate advertising networks, attribution partners, crash reporters, or analytics SDKs in the app. If a future version adds a service that receives information, we will update this policy before that change ships and, where the law requires it, ask for any extra consent.

Apple guideline 5.1.1 requires us to say that any third party with whom an app shares user data must protect it at least as strongly as this policy. We do not share user data from the app with third parties. Payment and audio delivery are handled by those providers as described above, not as a hand-off of your family’s practice data.

No advertising and no tracking

Soorah does not show ads. It does not track you or your child across other companies’ apps or websites. It does not use tracking cookies on soorah.app.

We do not request Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission, because we do not track. We do not use Android advertising identifiers.

This is the “No Ad Tracking” commitment linked from soorah.app.

Children’s privacy

Soorah is directed at children as well as adults in a family. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children as that term is used in COPPA, and we do not use the app to assemble a profile of a child on our systems.

Because practice data stays on the device, we do not need verifiable parental consent to “collect online” what we never receive. Parents and guardians can review and delete a child’s information on the device: edit or delete a profile, clear search history, remove downloads, or uninstall the app.

Purchase, restore, and support options are placed behind a grown-up arithmetic check. That check is a local parental gate. It is not a parent account, and it is not the same as COPPA verifiable parental consent for collecting personal information — we are not collecting that information.

We do not condition a child’s use of Soorah on providing more information than is needed to use a profile. A nickname is enough. We do not offer behavioural advertising to children. We do not enable public sharing, chat, or social features.

If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, write to hello@soorah.app and we will delete that correspondence from our inbox on request.

Your choices, retention, and deletion

You do not need to create an account, and there is no Soorah login to delete. Control sits on the device.

Delete a profile in Settings to remove that profile’s marks, activity, practice history, and search history from the device. Other profiles, downloads, and the device unlock are left as they are. Removing downloads deletes stored audio files and does not clear marks. Uninstalling Soorah removes the app’s local storage, including profiles, marks, history, downloads, and the local unlock flag. A store purchase can be restored later with the same Apple or Google account.

Information stays on the device until you delete it or uninstall the app. We do not keep a copy.

If you email hello@soorah.app, we keep that message long enough to reply and to handle the request. You can ask us to delete the email thread. We are not able to remotely delete on-device profiles; that has to be done on the device.

Google Play’s account-deletion rule applies to apps that let people create an account. Soorah does not. The steps above are how you delete what the app stored.

Permissions and security

Soorah uses local storage to keep profiles and files, and the network to stream or download audio and to talk to Apple or Google for a purchase or restore. It does not ask for camera, microphone, photos, contacts, or location.

Audio requests and store purchases use the encrypted connections provided by those services (HTTPS and the official store kits). Information on the device is in the app’s private storage. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and we cannot protect a device that is unlocked, lost, or backed up with a service you control.

This website

soorah.app is a static marketing site. It does not set advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not require an account. Your browser may keep ordinary technical logs through your network provider; we do not run a separate tracking script on the site.

If you write to us from a link on this site, that message is handled as described under Contact.

International users

Soorah is intended for families worldwide. We do not operate a Soorah cloud that transfers your practice data between countries, because that data stays on the device.

If you email us, your message is processed to respond to you. Where a privacy law gives you rights of access, correction, deletion, or complaint, contact hello@soorah.app. You may also contact your local data protection authority. For COPPA questions, you may contact the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if the app, the law, or store rules change. The effective date at the top of this page will change when we do. Material changes will be posted here at soorah.app/privacy before they apply. Keep using Soorah after an update means you accept the revised policy, except where the law requires a different consent.
